Rail Fan Day - Hosted by Thomasville Tourism Commission

This annual event 9:00am – 2:00pm Sat., Nov. 3th, 2018 honors the rail heritage in Thomasville as well as the rail fans that enjoy photographing the wide array and high volume of trains that pass through Thomasville. The event typically features professional speakers talking about photographing trains, how to upload the Advanced Train Control System, Norfolk Southern dispatchers, and the main event is the unveiling of the following year’s Train Calendar with door prizes given as well as prizes awarded to those who’s photos were chosen for the calendar.

Rail Fan Day will include Thompson Model Train Show at 12 West Main St. in Thomasville (adjanct to the Depot) Train show admission: Adults$5 - Children 10 & under $2

Thomasville Tourism will publish a 2019 calendar featuring photos of trains as they pass by iconic landmarks and/or beautiful scenery in Thomasville or anywhere in Davidson County. Winners will be mentioned in the calendar and will receive (5) free copies of the calendar!
Rail fans, photographers, and anyone interested can submit up to 5 pictures via email, winners will be announced at Thomasville Tourism’s Annual Rail Fan Day.
RULES & Tips
How to Enter:
Send an email to assistant@visitthomasvillenc.com with the subject " Calendar photo Contest”. The images you would like to submit should be included as attachments (up to 5 entries).

Be sure to give us your name, address, and phone number in the email.

Pictures should be in JPEG format (at least 7-10 MB).

Also include in the email a description of each picture in the order they are added as attachments. Is there anything special about this train? Is there anything special about the landmark or scenery in this picture? Why did you choose this spot? Good information on your photo enhances your chances of the photo being selected and you being acknowledged!

What are the judges looking for?
Rail fans know and appreciate the high volume of train traffic and the variety of trains passing through Davidson County, NC. Tourists recognize the historic sites and numerous attractions in Davidson County, NC. Ideal photos for this contest would capture both- unique trains and Davidson County’s identifying features. Judges will consider the quality of the photo, the train in the photo and Davidson County features in the photo. Judges will also do what they can to make sure each month of the calendar is represented by a photo reflective of that time of year.

At least two of the 13 winning photos will feature Norfolk Southern engines and at least two winning photos will feature an AMTRAK train.

Who are the judges?
This year’s judges will be the Thomasville Tourism Commission members.

Photo Rights
Photographers retain the copyright of their pictures, but by entering the contest, photographers are giving permission for all submitted photos to be used by Thomasville Tourism for the calendar and/or any marketing purposes.

DEADLINE for entry: September 30, 2018
Entries received after September 30, 2018 will not be considered for the contest.
