The City of Thomasville hosts a variety of sports and recreational opportunities including the Lake Thom-A-Lex Park, Winding Creek Golf Course and being home to the HiToms. In addition, the Thomasville Parks and Recreation Department has been in existence since 1949. Thomasville was the 18th city in North Carolina to have a full-time recreation department. The department maintains more than 106 acres of recreation property in the City of Thomasville. These acres include five playgrounds, three tennis courts, a 7,000 square-foot skate park, six outdoor basketball courts, one gymnasium, two recreation centers, one professional-size baseball field, one football stadium, one administrative office building, and seven athletic fields.

Hi-Toms

The High Point-Thomasville HiToms are a baseball team in the Coastal Plain League which is a collegiate summer baseball league. The HiToms play home games at Historic Finch Field which was built in Thomasville in 1935. Many of the HiToms and visiting players that played at Finch Field when it hosted professional minor league games went on to be enshrined in the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Many of the more recent HiToms college players have gone on to play in Major League Baseball. The HiToms currently play in the West Division of the CPL, and are three-time Coastal Plain League Petitt Cup Champions.

Winding Creek Golf Course

Winding Creek is an 18-hole, regulation municipal golf course located in Thomasville, featuring a par 72 layout with a course rating of 71 and a slope rating of 126. The course offers four tee options, with distances ranging from 4,658 yards from the red tees to 6,367 yards from the blue tees, and is open year-round during daylight hours, though frost delays may occur in the winter months.

Colonial Country Club

Colonial Country Club, a private club in the scenic city of Thomasville, boasts a beautifully renovated golf course, clay tennis courts, and a family-friendly swimming pool. Members enjoy a meticulously maintained par 71 golf course with Bermuda greens, rolling fairways, and 75 well-kept bunkers, offering a fair yet challenging layout year-round. The club also features a driving range, a spacious chipping green with a bunker, four clay tennis courts with lights for evening play, and a full-size swimming pool, including a popular wading pool for young swimmers.

High Rock Lake

Created in 1929, High Rock Lake is the northernmost of the Uwharrie Lakes and the second largest in North Carolina. Covering 15,180 acres with 365 miles of shoreline, it serves as a hydroelectric reservoir on the Yadkin River, offering excellent boating and fishing for bass, crappie, striper, bream, and catfish.

Thomasville Parks & Recreation

The Parks and Recreation department offers a variety of recreational activities for all ages. The department provides the citizens of Thomasville with fifteen different recreational facilities that offer: playgrounds, ball fields, a swimming pool, skate park, picnic shelters, meeting rooms, walking trails or just a quiet place to enjoy a sunny afternoon.

Hughes Park

East Davidson Hughes Park, located in southeastern Davidson County near Thomasville, is an athletic facility operated by the Davidson County Parks and Recreation Department. It hosts youth baseball, softball games, and weekend tournaments, with priority given to Parks and Recreation activities, and features two 200-foot baseball/softball fields, one 300-foot baseball field, soccer fields, a picnic shelter, concession stand, restrooms, and a disc golf course.


Thomasville Aquatic Center

The Thomasville Aquatics Center is a modern recreational facility offering a variety of swimming options, including a lap pool, leisure pool, and water play area. It serves as a hub for local fitness, swim lessons, and community events, providing a welcoming space for all ages to enjoy water activities.

Lake Thom-A-Lex Park

Fishermen can launch boats for $4 plus $2 to fish at the access below the Warden's office, or use one of three floating piers or bank fish for $2. Kayaks and canoes can be launched for $2, with solo kayaks available for rent at $15 for 4 hours and tandem kayaks at $25. A current North Carolina fishing license and lake permit are required, and swimming, pleasure boating, water skiing, and jet skiing are prohibited. Pets must be leashed and are not allowed in the lake or playground areas.

The Yadkin River

The Yadkin River, along with its tributaries and lakes, offers a diverse range of recreational activities for outdoor enthusiasts across the river basin, from tranquil waters to scenic trails. North Carolinians take advantage of the river’s natural beauty by enjoying boating, tubing, swimming, fishing, camping, hiking, and simply relaxing on its shores, making it a popular destination for all types of outdoor recreation.

Historical Walking Trails

Visitors of Thomasville are encouraged to participate in one (or all 3) of the City's Self-guided Historical Walks. Each Walk begins at the Visitors Center (Train Depot beside the Red Caboose) and they are all less than one mile long  (round-trip).
